"This metric measures the percentage of adults age 18 to 64 without health insurance, according to 2017 data from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey. On average, 14% of American adults lacked health coverage in 2017, compared to 12% in 2016. Massachusetts, where less than 4 percent of adults lacked health insurance, ranked first for this metric." TN ranked 36th in 2018 and dropped to 39th in 2019 with 9.5% uninsured.
The first step is to identify a chief lead and explore the numbers.
This evaluates how many children did not visit a dental clinic over the past year. In 2017, the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare measured the percentage of children eligible for EPSDT, the child health component of Medicaid, who did not receive any dental services in the past year. TennesseeWorks has a great blog explaining EPSDT and why it is important. TN ranked 20th in 2018 and 30th in 2019.
How we'll improve.
This metric monitors compliance with preventative care under the child health component of Medicaid. In 2017, the Centers for Medicaid & Medicare measured a "participant ratio", or the number of individuals who received at least one initial or periodic screen as a share of total individuals under 20 years who are eligible for EPSDT. TN ranked 32nd in 2018 and 26th in 2019.

This metric measures the percentage of adults who did not visit a dental clinic for any reason, including to see a dentist, dental hygienist or dental specialist, within the past year. Data were collected by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in a 2016 survey. TN ranks 45th.

Regular health checkups help doctors prevent and treat problems early on, which can lead to a longer, healthier life. This metric evaluates the percentage of adults who reported that they went without a routine checkup in the past year in a 2017 survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. TN ranked 30th in 2018 and 21st in 2019.

This metric measures the percentage of adults who responded positively to the question, “Was there a time in the past 12 months when you needed to see a doctor but could not because of cost?” in a 2016 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey. TN ranked 28th in 2018 and 39th in 2019.
